WHAT
IS A GROUND
SOURCE HEAT PUMP?
| A ground
source heat pump is an advanced
heating and cooling system
that taps the energy beneath
the earth’s surface
to cost-efficiently heat and
cool a home, school or business. |
|
 |
|
|
|
A series of liquid-filled
pipes are looped under the earth’s
surface. The heat pump circulates
this liquid to extract and concentrate
heat and circulate it throughout
the home.
To cool the home, the process is
reversed as the pump pulls heat
from the house to the earth. |

The initial investment
for a system is approximately 35 percent
greater than a conventional system. However,
the system will typically pay for itself
in energy savings within 3-5 years.
